Your Dance Medicine is a conscious meditative dance practice that recognizes dance as a “medicine” for the body, mind, heart and soul. While this is not therapy, it has therapeutic value. The practice invites you to move, feel and heal so that you can fully express yourself and ultimately, live your life, in a creative, authentic way.
Added bonus: It’s fun!
In this class, there is no set choreography. Instead, you are encouraged to discover your own dance. Each class begins with a theme and an exercise to help you connect to your body through subtle movement. The music and rhythms provide a gateway for you to then expand into a fuller dance. Each dance ends with a ritual for integration.
In the safe container of the dance, magic inevitably happens as people share movement, rhythm, beats, music and the dance floor. As an introvert myself, I deeply appreciate how the group field creates opportunities for co-regulation, attunement and belonging.
Your Dance Medicine serves as a pathway for fuller embodiment and joy. Each class will feel different because you are different on any given day. The group will be different. The theme will be different. Even I will be different. This creates endless possibilities for creative self-discovery.
Values & Guidelines
To maintain a safe environment and to honor our practice:
Be Barefoot – No shoes unless for medical reasons. Socks with grips on them are permitted.
Be Clear – This is a SOBER event. Arrive clear in heart and mind. Let the music transcend you.
Be Consensual – Get a clear yes before engaging others to dance. No exceptions.
Be Present – Absolutely no phones or video during the class. Just don’t do it!!!
Be Quiet – No talking/chit chat on the dance floor. Wild, non-verbal expressions are welcome.

What is a typical class structure like?
2:45p | Check In :: arrive, meditate, stretch
3:00p | Opening Circle :: welcome + intention setting
3:15p | Your Dance Medicine journey
4:15p | Closing Circle :: Integration + shared reflections
5:00p | Depart :: Carry your dance experience with you
Will there be a live DJ?
Can I arrive late or leave early?
Because we start with an opening circle and exercise in each class, it is recommended that you arrive 15 minutes early. If you run late, please wait until the exercise is complete and the dance has begun. I encourage you to stay through to the ending ritual and closing circle for fuller integration of the experience. Abiding by these guidelines also helps keep our class experience emotionally safe for everyone.
Why is there no talking on the dance floor?
Your Dance Medicine invites you to get out of your head and into your body. Conversation, chit chat and small talk brings folks back up into their thinking brain and out of their dance. Plus, it can be distracting for others who want to practice fuller embodiment.
What if I don’t like the music being played?
A Your Dance Medicine set list has specific purpose and intention for the dance. If it doesn’t resonate with you, stay curious as to how your body responds. How do you move when you struggle to connect with your environment? How can you connect to a pulse, rhythm, beat, lyric or sound in the music piece? Where and how can you find the connection?
What if I feel strong emotions on the dance floor?
That can happen sometimes. Dance can bring up a full range of emotions because the body and mind are interconnected. Stay present to your feelings, tune into what you might need and attend to them with compassion and care.
Why do you offer Your Dance Medicine classes if you are a psychotherapist?
I am trained as a Conscious Dance Facilitator as well as psychotherapist.
A movement class like conscious dance is a different way for me to hold space for folks to strengthen their body-mind connection. Your body holds information differently than your cognitive brain. Conscious dance can help you connect to yourself in a creative, playful, meaningful way.
Practices such as conscious dance can have tremendous physical and mental health benefits whether you simply need to move for exercise, relieve tension or stress, regulate anxiety, express yourself more, release fears, smile and laugh or reconnect with your body.
Are you saying that talk therapy is not helpful?
No! Talk therapy can be effective, depending on what you’re trying to work through. Talk therapy alone can at times have limitations. It depends on the topic and your goals.
Is Your Dance Medicine psychotherapy?
No. Your Dance Medicine is not psychotherapy but it has therapeutic value. It’s a conscious dance practice that can help you discover yourself through movement, play, curiosity, music and community.
Can this be a replacement for psychotherapy?
If you have mental health concerns, please consult with your primary physician or a psychotherapist to determine your psychotherapy needs.
If I see you for psychotherapy, can I put YDM classes through to my insurance?
No, Your Dance Medicine classes are not covered by insurance companies because it is not a psychotherapy service.
Do you offer refunds?
Your Dance Medicine ticket purchases are non-refundable.
